The staff was a definite shining star for this location. They were some of the friendly people I have ever met. Their ability to fluently speak multiple languages also impressed me.
Not a bad hotel. Hotel is older and rooms have an older look. Walls were thin and could hear a lot of noise outside of room. Staff was helpful but not outwardly friendly. Some staff were more friendly than others. Free breakfast was a plus. Free shuttle to Newark Penn Station was nice.
The hotel was in really good proximity of restaurants and venues alike that I was attending. The hotel staff was very helpful. I give it 4 stars because I didn't like the parking lot area of the hotel. It is definitely an accident waiting to happen if a driver is not skilled enough to handle their own vehicle in such tight spaces. The TV in our room would not switch from CNN.
I stayed here December 18,19, 20th 2017. I wanted to save a few bucks so hoofed it to NYC via NJ transit at Newark Penn Station. Very nice hotel, clean, modern rooms, nice bathrooms, employees were courteous, professional. Still a bit of a hike to NYC. Easy to get to walking distance from station though very quiet and isolated and have to cross a couple of very busy boulevards to get to it. You can see the hotel from Don Pepe's restaurant which is worth going to. The shuttle was fine leaves 24 7 on the half hour. Leaves you at the air train connection which is free and one stop.
Overall this hotel was pleasant. It definitely had its small imperfections. The room needed a little bit of work, however in general it was well kept.
There are no separate controls for the temperature in the rooms. When it was too warm in the room, we were told by the staff to open a window. There was also hair (not ours) in the shower. The sheets and pillow cases seemed clean but extremely rough to the touch. The restaurant only served a $45 price fixed dinner on the Friday night we were there. So we sat at the bar and ate appetizers which were mediocre at best. The name BEST WESTERN is not on the front of the hotel and took us a while to actually find as well which seemed very odd...
