This was one of the best rental car experiences I have had in a long time. I usually do not write reviews - but because this was such a great experience - I felt I should review. The employees were friendly and helpful. Check in and return was fast. The car was excellent. They even greeted us with cold water which was awesome after a 12 hour flight. Highly recommend Alamo at Newark Airport!!
Great American car (Dodge Grand Caravan)and a super price (caught the one-way special to move cars to Florida for low price). Only advice is better help exiting the airport and getting on the right path. Very confusing. Suggest a small 1-page sheet provided to each renter with a simple map and instructions for primary directions, i.e. "For NJ Turnpike South, follow .....", for NJ Turnpike North, follow ....", etc.
Everything went well from checking in to returning the car. I don’t think the car had been cleaned. The wiper fluid was low and there was paperwork in it from the prior rental. But other than that it was fine. I drove it just over 700 miles and there were no issues.
Alamo always does a great job for their rental car customers. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly and cars are in good working order. I find the value from Alamo is usually the best for a rental car. I am a loyal Alamo consumer!
However, there was no arrangement of the cars. They were completely random. No way to tell which car was a "mid size SUV." The example of that category given on the website was a Nissan Rogue, so we wandered around until we found one. It wasn't parked by an Alamo sign, nor was there anything in or on the car that would tell us it was an Alamo car. We got in and drove to the exit.
The car itself was fine, nearly new. And the return process was very efficient. We were promptly met by an agent who scanned the car's bar code and printed out a receipt.
There I was greeted by an agent who wanted my "paperwork." I showed her the bar code on my phone and she responded that "they" weren't supposed to be doing that. Nonetheless she scanned the bar code and the keys, pointed out that she couldn't print me a rental agreement, and hand-wrote the RA number on a map.
By checking in for my rental in advance, I was given a bar code on my phone so I could bypass the counter and go straight to the garage to pick a car. The instructions said the cars would be arranged by category so I could easily pick a car from my category.
